I am so excited, it's only a few days away!
Russian women and men celebrate traditional russian orthodox Christmas on January 7th, 13 days after the one celebrated by the catholic church and most people of the western world. I thought I would let you know today to give you some time to prepare special holiday greetings to the special hot russian lady or beautiful ukranian woman you may be courting. It's just enough time to make a special cyber greeting or plan a special webcam chat to help her celebrate the holiday which may be closest to her heart.
A little taste of the history:
After the Russian Revolution Christmas was banned throughout Russia along with other religious celebrations. We could not openly celebrate the holidaty for 75 years! It wasn't until 1992 that the holiday could be publically celebrated by russian girls and boys. It reminds me very much of the first Narnia book, a land without Christmas. ::SAD::
Christmas eve is a very important night for us as well, but of course, keep in mind that for us this is Janurary 6th! This is a day you might not want to make plans with your future russian bride as she may have important family obligations.
On the Eve of Christmas, it is traditional for the whole family to gather for a special meal. A long standing tradition for russia women who have russian orthodox roots is the Christmas Eve fast and meal. The fast lasts until after the evening mass or until the first star appears. The dinner that follows the fasting is very much a celebration. Similar to other christmas eve meals globally, most meat is not permitted, though fish is usually allowed. Kutya is the main dish served. It is a type of porridge that is very symbolic. It's ingredients being various grains for hope and honey and poppy seed for happiness and peace.
Would you like to learn more about Kutya and perhaps how to make it? I found a link to a recipe very similar to our traditional family recipe here:

Traditionally russian woman would cook this, but you might be able to impress your future beautiful slavic bride with your knowledge of how to prepare this dish / what goes into it. The heart is not far from the stomach, when you finally set up a meeting through a romance tour or through her russian bride agency maybe you can plan ahead to travel this time of year to taste the dish yourself ;)
